Easy Ways to Practice Earth Day Ideas All Year Long
Tips for Practicing Earth Day
When thinking about Earth Day ideas, our family has always been into recycling but we’ve never gone crazy about Earth Day. I guess it’s good to take a day every year to remind people about being good stewards of our resources.
Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970. It is a worldwide event that celebrates support for protection of the environment.
There are many parts of our environment such as the oceans, land, natural resources, soil, population, rainforest, the ozone layer, and more. Earth Day focuses on preserving and protecting all parts of our environment.
Of course, there are varying opinions on which part of the environment need more attention than others. Each group of people think that their cause is most important.
Although it is important to preserve and respect our planet, it’s important to remember who created it in the first place. God created the earth and when we celebrate Earth Day, we celebrate His creation.
Bible verses that relate to Earth Day and God’s creation:
- In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
- God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:28
- God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. Genesis 1:16
- The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Psalm 24:1-2
- The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. Psalm 74:16
- You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. Psalm 65:9
We need to understand that God made this world for us to take care of, we can use the brains He gave us to make good decisions.
How We Apply These Verses
The main way we practice these principles is in the area of chemicals. We know that many chemicals are not good for our bodies or the environment.
Even though some scientists say that the chemicals in our cleaning products, food, and personal care products is minimal, I believe that these minimal amounts accumulate. If each product contains 3 chemicals and we use 20 products a day, that is a ton of chemicals.
The number of new chemicals created every year is astounding. Although our bodies are amazing and can adapt to a lot of situations, I believe that we are exposed to far too many chemicals each day.
You wonder why autism, asthma, cancer, and other childhood disease rates are climbing. I think it has a direct link to the number of chemicals that pregnant moms and little children are exposed to.
Reducing Chemicals for Earth Day
One way to combat this is to either use pure products or make your own. That’s why I share my own personal care product recipes with moms.
Depending on how much money you want to save will determine how many of your own products you want to make. I definitely make our own foaming hand soap and deodorant and we don’t use anything else.
Earth Day Ideas – Toxin Free
There are tons of recipes out there that use essential oils for cleaning. You’ll find them all over the Internet. Chances are, you don’t have all the ingredients for those recipes though. Then you will either have to get some ingredients or just give up making the cleaning product for lack of ingredients.
Let’s face it, you’ve tried natural cleaners and they don’t really work, so you go back to your harsh chemicals for a more clean feel and smell. Well, your days of not getting results with natural cleaners are over!
There is now a natural cleaner that is incredibly powerful and yet so safe that there is no ingestion warning on the label. The best part is that each bottle you make is just 38 cents!
My Favorite Earth Day Product
For chemical-free cleaning that is good for the environment and your health, Thieves Cleaner is the best! Yes, it’s made from Thieves essential oil, but it is housed in a plant and mineral base. I have cleared out ALL the cleaners in my house with just this one cleaner!
I had a stain on my bathroom counter that had been there for YEARS and one application of Thieves Cleaner took it right off. There were also stains on our bathroom linoleum that had been there for years that came right off the first time I used Thieves Cleaner.
There are various dilutions but 1 capful (1/2 T) Thieves Cleaner in a 30 oz spray bottle is my favorite. I can clean almost everything in my house for months with just that 38 cents worth. Then I can dilute or increase the Thieves Cleaner for lighter or tougher jobs.
It Matters What You Use to Clean
Earth Day is about not harming the environment and I figure if a cleaning product is not harming my family, it’s not harming the environment either.
Young Living carries great laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, dish detergent, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a whole line of safe baby products called Seedlings.
I’ve made our own laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent but with our hard water, these don’t work well at all. Some things you just have to buy organic from a manufacturer.
More Earth Day Ideas
Another part of Earth Day is growing things. Planting seeds into soil and watching them grow is so satisfying. My husband and son love gardening and house plants. They even built a little greenhouse a couple of years ago!
My son starts seeds in the house and eventually takes them out to the greenhouse when the weather gets warmer. If you don’t know much about growing things, these posts should help you get started:

Earth Day Questions:
These are common Earth Day questions and my answers.
- How did Earth Day get started? It was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970.
- How is Earth Day celebrated? Depending on where you live, Earth Day can be celebrated by listening to a speech about conservation or pollution, planting a tree, doing an experiment about erosion, or many other creative Earth Day ideas.
- How Earth Day is celebrated in school. Again, this depends on your school. Some schools have lots of great Earth Day Ideas. They can do Science experiments, go outside for a nature walk, plant a garden or a tree, listen to a teacher or video talk about conservation, talk about recycling plastic bottles, talk about electric cars and their advantages and disadvantages, and much more.
- How earth day is important – When you read the Bible, you understand how important it is to take care of all that God has given us. He instructs us to be wise stewards of the earth and take care of it.
- How long is Earth Day? This question was actually asked. It is as long as any other day – 24 hours.
How we celebrate Earth Day
Our family basically practices good stewardship of the earth all year long. We recycle plastics, paper and cardboard. We grow our own food and have a geothermal heating/cooling system in our home. Our children have always been exposed to taking care of what God has given us by our daily example.
How to celebrate Earth Day at work? If you work in an environment that allows you to have time to discuss current events and opinions, it’s easy to talk about Earth Day there. There are many Earth Day ideas like recycling, nature, gardening, conservation, the carbon footprint, and more.

Earth Day Ideas for Kindergarten and Preschool? Young children love to learn and providing lots of hands-on Earth Day ideas and activities can help them learn even faster and with more impact. Since young children seem to be a sponge for information, take full advantage of this. Take them on nature walks, do fun experiments with dirt, water, seeds, and anything else you can find, read books about nature and recycling, and answer all their questions. Since they are naturally curious, they usually have lots of questions. For more preschool and Kindergarten activities, check out my ebooks at Preschool Ideas.
More Bible Verses for Earth Day Ideas
As you can see from all the verses, God is the master creator and has big plans for His creation. He knows every detail about the earth and how it works.
- By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:3
- For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;all things have been created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16
- He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. Hebrews 1:10
- This is what God the Lord says—“the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:” Isaiah 42:5
- To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. Deuteronomy 10:14
- You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. Psalm 89:9
- “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? Job 38:4-7

Closing Earth Day Ideas
It’s funny when it comes to Earth Day, some people think that we have so much control in what happens to our environment. They think that if they plant some trees, the whole world will improve.
The truth is, God is the one that makes those trees live and die. He does love it when we take care of the earth He has given us though.
As with everything, there should be a balance. We shouldn’t destroy things on the earth for no reason, but we also shouldn’t think that we are the only ones in control.
God loves us and wants us to be good stewards of the land and seas that He has provided. Also, He doesn’t want us to be destructive or pollute the earth either.
Whether you plant a tree, get safer cleaning products, or start making some of your own personal care products, I hope you understand your role in helping take care of the planet God created.
You are the gatekeeper for your family!
What comes into your home usually has to go through you first. That’s why it’s important that you don’t get lazy and just buy the cheapest item off the grocery store shelves.
Be alert and do your research. Your family’s health could be in jeopardy if you don’t.
My motto – Do the best we can with the resources we have been given and then leave the rest up to God.
Hopefully, these Earth Day ideas along with the verses mentioned above will give you some practical ways to live responsibly.
