Tips for Using Essential Oils for Healthy Skin

We use essential oils multiple times a day, so I thought I would share some of the ways we use essential oils for healthy skin. Our skin is our largest organ and whatever touches our skin gets absorbed. That is why I have learned to live by the adage that if I can’t eat it, I don’t want it on my skin either.

Skin Recipes with Essential Oils

Cream/Lotion – Mix 2-20 drops essential oil to organic coconut oil and apply where needed. Other lotions can be made with shea butter and beeswax to make a thicker cream that doesn’t melt when the temperature goes above 76 degrees. Oils that I put into lotion include lavender, orange, frankincense, Purification, Stress Away, Clarity, Release, copaiba, Melrose, Peace & Calming and many others.

Why use chemical-laden lotions when I can make pure lotion with pure essential oils in them?

Body Massage – Add 2-10 drops essential oil to carrier oil and use during massage. Any of the oils mentioned above can be used here.

Who doesn’t love a massage? And what better way to make a massage even better than with essential oils!

Shampoo and Conditioner Booster – add 4-6 drops of lavender oil to a full 8-16oz shampoo or conditioner bottle to enhance the cleansing power of the shampoo and for a fresh relaxing scent.

Soothing Bath – Add 2-4 drops of lavender, Stress Away, frankincense, Peace & Calming or other Young Living oils to a warm bath for a relaxing and stress-relieving bath.

Hand or foot soak – add 2-3 drops lavender essential oil (or any oils mentioned above) to a tub or bowl of water. Soak hands or feet in this mixture for 5-30 minutes.

Healthy hair – add 2 drops lavender, cedarwood, or Purification essential oil to fingers and gently massage whole scalp.

Toes and Fingers – add a few drops of tea tree oil to cuticle cream or spray to maintain nail and cuticle health.

Cautions with Essential Oils

When using essential oils on the skin, by inhalation, or in an essential oil diffuser it is important to purchase pure therapeutic grade essential oil. You will use 10 times less oil and get quicker results too.

Since the personal care industry hardly regulates any of their products, the weight of the caution is on the consumer. Essential oils can contain all types of chemicals and additives and still list “natural” or “100% pure” on the label according to US labeling laws.

That is why the only oils I will put on my family or let them inhale are Young Living oils. You can purchase them at the retail cost or at the same price I buy them, wholesale. You can follow the instructions at the side of this article or contact me directly for instructions on what oils to use and how to get them at the best price.

I hope these tips and recipes on using essential oils for healthy skin have helped you. Let me know if you have any questions.
