How to Declutter your Home in the Simplest and Easiest Way Possible

You’re probably done with clutter and really want to declutter your home, yet you just can’t get started. Rather than reading more books and still feeling stuck and paralyzed, let’s get unstuck now!

Tired of clutter but don't know where to start? Learn how to use this simple plan for minutes a day to declutter your whole house with little stress.

All you need for this declutter system is a box and about 3 minutes a day.

You realize you have enough

Over the last few (or many years), you have accumulated too many possessions and, as a result, now it’s overwhelming. Maybe you now realize the truth in this statement, “He who knows he has enough is rich.” Chinese Philosopher Lao Tzu

We do have a lot. Americans have a lot of things and if you’re ready to downsize and live with less, I have just the plan for you!

Steps to Take to Declutter:

Here’s how the plan works…

Get a Box –  This is the most important part of this system, yet without a box, you will never get started decluttering since you will have nowhere to put your items. This doesn’t have to be a fancy box. Any box will do. Therefore, you can refer to this as your “Out Box” because, from now on, that is exactly where it is going… OUT of your house!

Decide where you’re going to focus – The next step is to look around your house or think in your mind about the areas where you have too many items.

Here are some areas where we have too much:

  • clothing
  • books
  • movies
  • kitchen item
  • computer files
  • pictures on the computer
  • games

Don’t pick too many areas – I suggest you pick 3 areas where you would like to reduce clutter. Be careful though, if you pick too many areas, it will take too long and you might stop. We don’t want you to stop. Keep going!

Few minutes a day – You have your box, right? Here’s the fun part of this declutter system. Go around your house and pick one item from each of the 3 areas you picked above. Put those 3 items in your box and you’re done for the day!

While you want to pick more items from each area, you can do that, but please don’t try to do too much at once.

Yet your box will probably fill up and you will feel REALLY accomplished at this point. Now you have a declutter plan, and it will be easy to stick with that plan each day.

What to do with your filled boxes?

Your box might fill up quickly, yet have no fear, there is a plan for your box too.

You have 2 options for your filled “Out Boxes”

1. Put the box by the door or in your car and take it to a donation center the next time you drive near one.

2. Put the box in an open spot in your house, like a corner of your basement. In the future, these boxes will be the supply for your next garage sale or donation center trip.

That’s all there is to it. This is a simple plan that gives you instant gratification. Get those boxes filled up and see the clutter in your house disappear with very little effort from you.

Just do a little at a time and a big job gets done!

  1. Thank you for your helpful ideas. I thought I was alone, but I have been reading about guilt and emotional attachment and realize why I have so much stuff. What I really wanted to tell you, is I actually purchased the book titled The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, about a year or so ago. Well, I lost it immediately after it arrived!! That is how bad the collection of stuff has gotten. I am going to try your suggestions, and I hope to come across that book one of these days. I shared this because I thought it was amusing. I now realize it isnt. Lol. Thanks again for your tips. 🙂
